To neglect one's body for any other advantage in life is the greatest of follies.

About Erit - Founder and Principal of the Pilates School

Born in Johannesburg South Africa, Erit started her dance career at the age of 8 doing ballet and then contemporary jazz with one of South Africa’s most renowned choreographers Adele Blank. Erit was not naturally flexible and neither was her core strength which eventually over time started to take its toll on her neck and my back. Like most of us, Erit ignored the pain and continued to dance on injured muscles and weak joints.

Pursuing her dream as a professional dancer got further and further away as she simply could not keep up due to constant injury. At the age of 16 she finally went to an orthopaedic surgeon who found a small crack in her thoracic spine and the doctor sat across the table and told her that if she doesn’t stop dancing she could be in a wheelchair by the time she is 30.

Erit decided she had to pour her passion elsewhere and was naturally drawn to the eastern discipline of martial arts and took up karate but soon injury set in there too. After giving up completely for about 2 years, a rekindled enthusiasm began to emerge. At 18yrs old inspired by Jane Fonda, Erit became an aerobics instructor, but high impact aerobics took its toll too. After a succession of slipped discs, compression injuries of the sacro iliac joint, hip and neck strain and pain which caused further stress related conditions she decided to study alternative health and spent the next 16 years researching western practices of holistic health from mineral and vitamin therapy to ancient Chinese health practices.

Erit became a personal trainer after moving to Australia in 1995, specializing in injury and weight loss. In 2001 Erit opened the Pilates School of WA and spent years developing her unique techniques and programs. Together with her husband Phil, who manages the School, they set up other schools for their instructors and also developed their own instructor training and corporate training program.

With the day to day operations taken care of, Erit is able to continue to develop the programs, teach, deliver keynote addresses, write, and is just about to launch a new breakthrough fitness program. When you meet Erit, you could never imagine her in a wheelchair and her enthusiasm and energy is infectious.

If you do these exercises once a week- you'll feel the difference, if you do them twice a week - you'll see the difference, if you do them three times a week - others will see the difference.
